Storybook Land
We leave tomorrow night to start our vacation, so I thought I'd better put up a post or two before we go. I'll be leaving the laptop at home during this trip so no posts until we get back. It's been a bit of a busy week, so I haven't had a lot of time for posting, but I've got a moment now.
In honor of our upcoming trip, I decided to post a few more pics from our last trip.
Our grandparents live outside of Aberdeen, South Dakota; and in Aberdeen they have a little place called Storybook Land. We used to go here when we were kids so we decided it was time for a nostalgia visit. Basically, this place is filled with statues, buildings, and such of storybook creatures, characters, and settings. Above is Rapunzel's castle, complete with knights, Rapunzel, and the prince, hanging on for dear life from her hair.
Some of the other characters to note are Paul Bunyan and Babe, the blue ox...
Humpty Dumpty...
One of the Billy Goats Gruff and his troll...
and Snow White and Dopey.
There were many more including Jack and Jill, after the hill incident.
As I was taking a photo of Jack and Jill, one of Storybook's cutest residents popped up to say hello.
"Hey, little buddy. Shouldn't you be over by Snow White?"
In the center of Storybook there's a huge beanstalk with Jack and the Giant. Whenever someone gets close to it, someone says "run, Jack, run." And then the giant says his iconic line. It's loud enough to hear from almost anywhere in Storybook.
At the back of Storybook there's the Land of Oz, complete with Munchkin Land and a yellow brick road to follow into the woods.
There's even a couple of talking trees in the woods along the yellow brick road. They threaten the passersby.
They also have a couple of small petting zoos, and there was a baby buffalo in one. He stuck his tongue out when I took his picture.
There were other interesting things to see too, like Geppetto's Cottage...
Blackbeard's ship...
and the three little pigs' houses. The one above is the house of brick.
However, while most of Storybook is fun and colorful, there are a few scary characters among them. And the winner of the scariest guy in Storybook goes to...
the Big Bad Wolf! Man, was that statue creepy, staring down from the pig's roof and watching with those frightening eyes.
Well, that's all for now.
