The Rebel
Leaving his furry little friend, Jared continued to explore the forest. Soon enough he found himself back where he had begun with an armload of wood and a good idea of where to bring the wagon on his next visit. Suddenly, he heard a loud crack to his right. Springing into action, he shimmied up a tree where he could look down and not be spotted.
Looking down it quickly became apparent that he was no longer alone in Airde Forest.
Far below him Jared spotted Sir Doyle, a top ranking officer in the rebel army. Sir Doyle rode alone under the midday sun, and Jared wondered what a high ranking rebel was doing in the forest alone. It almost seemed as if Doyle were looking for something.
Though not a soldier, Jared couldn't allow such an encounter to go unanswered. So long as Doyle didn't see him, knowing what the rebel officer was up to could prove invaluable. With that much made up in his mind, Jared decided to tail the rebel to see what he might learn.
"What's he up to?" Jared murmured, watching closely from his hiding place.
Sneaking around the other side, Jared watched closely to see the rebel lean over by a large boulder and search the ground beside it. Yes, he was definitely looking for something. Soon enough his eyes lit up, as he found what he sought. Jared only caught a glimpse of the elusive object, but from what he could see it wasn't good.
I'd better report this to the prince as quickly as possible, Jared ducked into the shadows before racing off towards the castle once more.
