Xavier's New Eyes
It's been a long, hard road getting Xavier the way I wanted him to be. First with his wig and then with his eyes. When he came I decided to make him a yarn wig while I looked around online to see what else I could find, and his original eyes were plain brown ones.
I wanted him to have special eyes, because of his special backstory, so I searched until I could find the best ones. In the meantime I tried a few pairs on him that we had lying around unused. I decided to switch the brown ones out for yellow ones. I didn't care for those much either, especially at first, but then I got used to the way he looked in them.
While I was working on finding him better eyes, I kept searching for a replacement wig. I thought my yarn one looked a little too girly, and mostly it slid around too much. I was always adjusting it, even with a silicon wig cap, but then I saw a wig on AliExpress that I liked the look of, so I bought it.
When it came it looked nothing like the stock photos. It was really tight for a 7-8 inch wig, and it was way too short. It had also been meant to be wavy, but it was straight. So, back to the drawing board. Then I got lucky, and someone listed a light auburn wig with bright blue highlights on eBay that was a 7-8. I bought it immediately and when it came I finally had a wig that I liked for Xavier.
Finally I ordered the eyes I picked out for Xavier. The seller was on vacation for a long time before I could place the order, but when I did place the order it only took a month for her to make them and for them to get here from London. I bought them from Candy Kitten Emporium on Etsy.
Xavier's eyes arrived yesterday and I installed them as soon as possible. They are very nice, although they don't quite have the depth I was expecting, and I think they might take some getting used to on Xavier, but all his eyes have taken that. Of course, the biggest problem could be that I'm still not entirely certain that I got them in straight. That's a big thing for me--off center/uneven eyes are very distracting--and I have to give it a little time to be sure.
I took the photo tonight and it was getting dark so this was the only photo that turned out. I'll have to try again, but we're getting ready to take a trip so I probably won't have a chance to do it tomorrow. But Xavier is coming along, so I'll hopefully get lots of chances not only to get better pictures, but also to get used to these new eyes--and to figure out if they really are in straight or not.
