I promised yesterday to give a look at Midas's new pants. We drafted the pattern and made him a nice pair the week before last, right before I caught my cold.
I apologize for the off-kilter photo. I didn't realize that I tipped the camera at an odd angle, and now my mom has run off with Midas to work on his new shirt pattern, so I can't take another picture. Oh, well. Next time I'll be more careful. (I guess the cold is messing with my sense of balance.)
We made Midas's pants out of some awesome gauze fabric we had lying around that we got when the local Hancock Fabrics closed. Because they were closing, we had to buy the lot of what they had (~5 yards), but at least it was really cheap and really nice. It's not real see-through like most gauzes and it doesn't shed lint like mad either. It made fabulous pants for Midas.
They are comfy and fit perfectly. Even when he sits down they give him plenty of room to breath without being too baggy and without providing the "floody" ankle look.
From the back they sit on his waist right where they should...
...and when he sits he doesn't end up mooning anyone. Not like some guys. Sheesh, guys, pull your pants up already!
Anyway, with his pants done his shirt is next. It's going to be more challenging than the pants for numerous reasons. Of course, the obvious one is that shirts are inherently more complicated than pants. They have more pieces, and thus take more work. The other two reasons are that he is so small more hand sewing will be necessary because of the tiny pieces and I choose complicated designs without fail. I want Midas's outfit to look spectacular, which means I'm going to have to work extra hard and be creative to get exactly what I want out of it. With any luck, we'll be ready to show off his shirt soon.
