Midas's Outfit: The Final Product
At long last Midas's outfit is complete! We worked on it really hard because Midas is coming along on our upcoming trip. Everything on it was made by us, except the sword.
His pants are gauze and his shirt is a nice silky fabric. We made his jerkin out of faux suede with a leather-like pattern. His gauntlets, belts, boots, and bag are made of faux leather upholstery fabric. I made those things, hand-stitching each of them. I embellished the bag with tiny gears and some charms.
I wish the picture would've come out better, but I was so busy today that I waited until tonight and it was too dark. I'll definitely try again later.
Then I sewed a sheath for Midas's sword. I bought a Legend of Zelda Master Sword necklace, because the blade was the perfect size for Midas, but the rubber sheath it came with wasn't going to match the aesthetic of his outfit, so I designed a new one. I stitched it up the side with black embroidery floss to make it look like it had been wrapped in black "leather." It turned out great. In fact, I didn't even have to do it more than once.
After everything else was finished, I wanted to make Midas a fur caplet. Well, I made something, I'm just not sure what exactly it is. It looks like some strange fur collar, and it doesn't look great under his cape. It looks even worse over his cape. I had to adjust it while I was making it, and I think it's something Midas will keep, but it's probably not something I'll make again. I won't even waste time fixing the pattern, because it really wouldn't be worth it.
Anyway, his outfit looks great, and I love it! I'm so excited to take him on our trip and take some cool outdoor shots. Oh, and I'll probably be making a second pair of boots, because these ones are a little too tight and his pants push them down, which causes them to bunch at the bottom and it makes it difficult for him to stand on them. My prototype was better, but I took an unnecessary seam out of the pattern for the second pair, and I think I took out a bit too much. But making new ones will have to wait until after we get back from our trip.
