Introducing Brooke and the Garr Brothers
My first family is pretty small, including only three dolls. Actually, they aren't all a "family" as such, because the boys are brothers but the girl is simply someone they both like. A lot.
These are the Garr brothers and Brooke. The boys' story is kind of unique. I wanted one of them, so I ordered the brother on the left. I wanted him in tan and I paid for a face-up. However, I got him and he was hardly tanned and his face-up initially struck me as a disaster. He was shipped him before I could have this mistake corrected, so I figured I'd have to send him back or sell him. That's when I decided to order his brother.
When the first boy came it was a Saturday and the post office was closed. I had two choices, wait until Monday and see if I could put "return to sender" on the box and send him back at no cost to me, or open the box, see what he looked like in real life, and take a chance on selling him later. I opened the box. To my surprise, he was very well made. Certainly not tan, and that face-up was still startling, but better than I expected. (I love the engineering of these guys' bodies; they move and pose really, really well.) I kept him out while waiting for the second one to arrive. By then he'd begun to grow on me, so I decided there was nothing else for it. He was staying. We named him Simon Garr. He's the older of the two Garr brothers. He's also got a little bit of a "misunderstood villain" thing going on with that face-up, which has started to grow on me too. I was super thrilled when about a week ago I found the perfect wig for him on eBay. It goes beautifully with his unique personality and looks.
This is Ransom Garr. He's beautifully made and way more tan than his older brother. After what happened to Simon's face I was taking no chances, and ordered Ransom without a face-up. We want to learn to do BJD face-ups someday anyway. Hopefully Ransom will at least be getting his own hair before the month is out. Both of them have their fingers crossed for some decent clothes before the end of 2017 too. Right now they argue a lot, mostly over their jealousy issues. Simon has decent pants, a face-up, and now hair. Ransom, on the other hand, has a shirt, but he has no face-up, no hair, and his "pants" are a prototype test pair that he's wearing inside out. They're also sewn with pink thread.... Needless to say, this is a touchy source of tension between the two. At least Ransom has shoes. (So does Simon, but they don't work with his current pants, so he can't wear them right now. Point Ransom!)
Last is Brooke. Currently, she has no last name. She was my first SD doll and a gift for my birthday. There's a story behind that too, but it's best left for a later post. Brooke has dark brown eyes, and it took us forever to find her a beautiful wig that fits and looks good on her. Right now her outfit is a work in progress; something we started to be able to sell and had to table due to unforeseen mishaps. Hopefully it too will be finished this year, and we can make her another outfit that's all her own. As for the Garr brothers, both of them like Brooke, but she's not sure which one she prefers. They don't know it yet, but they'll be getting some competition in a couple weeks. Wonder how they'll handle that?
That's all for today. Thanks for reading and be sure to come back tomorrow to meet another of Barrel Ryder's families--we're taking turns introducing our dolls.
