The Knight and the Dragon
On a crisp fall day, Sir Damian took a walk through the forest. Finding a large, flat rock, Damian sat for a while, autumn leaves floating gently from the trees around him.
From behind the rock at his back, Damian heard a sound.
What is that? Damian looked over his shoulder...
A little dragon!
Dragons and knights being enemies, Damian leapt to his feet, hand on his sword, and prepared to defend himself.
"Hello," said the dragon. "My name is Gene."
The little squeak surprised Damian. He didn't know that dragons could talk! Now he just had to get a closer look.
"I'm Sir Damian," Damian introduced himself. "I'm a knight."
"A knight," the dragon gulped. "Aren't knights enemies with dragons?"
Damian explained that many brave knights had fought big scary dragons to defend beautiful damsels and helpless kingdoms.
"But you don't look so big or scary to me," Damian went on, allowing the little dragon to climb into his lap. "Where did you come from?"
Gene told Damian all about how he'd been hatched in a nearby cave several months ago and that all his siblings and his parents had gone away now. He was left alone in the world. Damian felt sorry for the little dragon and decided maybe he just needed a friend to play with.
"I have an idea," laying aside his cloak and sword, Damian gathered up a big pile of leaves and buried the dragon.
"Hey, Gene, where did you go?"
"I can't see you."
Gene snickered, but kept quiet.
"Where are you, little dragon?" Damian teased.
"Here I am!" Gene jumped out of the leaves.
"Argh!" Damian wrestled Gene into the leaves.
The leaves were thrown around with gleeful abandon as the two played.
Then they flopped into the leaves and tried to make leaf angels.
With the sun dipping low, Damian sadly said goodbye to his new friend and gathered up his cloak and sword. It was time to go home.
Little did he know, he had a tagalong.
Now the knight has a new best friend.
Gene the dragon is the newest tiny plush that I finished earlier this week. I made him with a pattern I adjusted and shrunk, not my own design. But he turned out so cute. Gene is a little bigger than the one I made for Ryder, but he's still the perfect size for a BJD prop pet.
Gene is available on eBay or Etsy. Links below.
