Midas's Outfit: The Final Product

Image
At long last Midas's outfit is complete! We worked on it really hard because Midas is coming along on our upcoming trip. Everything on it was made by us, except the sword. Full Outfit for Soom Faery Legend Male Sprite Top Half Up Close Lower Half Up Close His pants are gauze and his shirt is a nice silky fabric. We made his jerkin out of faux suede with a leather-like pattern. His gauntlets, belts, boots, and bag are made of faux leather upholstery fabric. I made those things, hand-stitching each of them. I embellished the bag with tiny gears and some charms. I wish the picture would've come out better, but I was so busy today that I waited until tonight and it was too dark. I'll definitely try again later. Then I sewed a sheath for Midas's sword. I bought a Legend of Zelda Master Sword necklace, because the blade was the perfect size for Midas, but the rubber sheath it came with wasn't going to match the aesthetic of his outfit, so I desi...

Xavier's New Eyes

Image
It's been a long, hard road getting Xavier the way I wanted him to be. First with his wig and then with his eyes. When he came I decided to make him a yarn wig while I looked around online to see what else I could find, and his original eyes were plain brown ones. I wanted him to have special eyes, because of his special backstory, so I searched until I could find the best ones. In the meantime I tried a few pairs on him that we had lying around unused. I decided to switch the brown ones out for yellow ones. I didn't care for those much either, especially at first, but then I got used to the way he looked in them. While I was working on finding him better eyes, I kept searching for a replacement wig. I thought my yarn one looked a little too girly, and mostly it slid around too much. I was always adjusting it, even with a silicon wig cap, but then I saw a wig on AliExpress that I liked the look of, so I bought it. When it came it looked nothing like the stock pho...

In Touch with Nature

Image
Sunday we decided to go up to a mountain trail not far from where we live and see if we couldn't get some good pictures. We took along a few dolls, but when we got there it was just way too busy. Too many people were around, so we skipped the dolls. Lucky we did too, because it's quite a hike up the mountain for someone who doesn't do that kind of thing much (a.k.a. us), and the box of MSD dolls would've been unbearably heavy. Beauty of Nature Part of the path is paved for a ways, and then you reach this nice, shady glen where there's a little river and a culvert spurting out water. From there on it's all gravel pathways. Usually, we're not too big on hikes, but my dad pressed us to keep going, so we did. Tree That Probably Died in the Scorching Summer Heat Long Ago I got quite a few interesting photos, though it was about 1:30-ish in the afternoon and the sun was blazing high in the sky, making the lighting kind of harsh. But it was nice to ...

Board Game

Image
Xavier was so bored. Since Brick had a lot of work to do, Ivy had taken all of the Wall kids out so that their father could have some peace and quiet. Only Descole remained at home, still getting over his cold, and Xavier hadn't been invited along either, so he took his favorite teddy bear and went up to the main house. Because of his origins and how he'd been found on the beach by the Walls with no memory of his own past, Xavier liked to carry his bear with him. As strange as it sounded, the little bear comforted him in his uncertainty, since he still had no idea who he was or where he had come from. But right now he had more pressing issues to worry about, like his boredom. He wished there was something more to do than just lounge around. Maybe there was a book he could read. Xavier got up to go check in Mr. Wall's bookcase. "Nothing in here," Xavier groaned. Mr. Wall's books weren't of much interest to a teenage boy. At his desk, Brick st...

Shadow Link

Image
So, to go along with my last post on taking pictures, I'm showing off Link's costume today. When I bought Link it was with the intention to make costumes to sell based off of Link from the Legend of Zelda video games. I like the character of Link and I thought a little YoSD Link would be a lot of fun. At the time I searched high and low for the perfect YoSD doll to fit the character. The most important thing to me was the ears. Link has big elf ears--at least he does in Ocarina of Time--and my YoSD Link needed elf ears too, the bigger the better. Then I got lucky. Someone posted a used Bambicrony Cookie Elf up on eBay with the perfect HUGE elf ears. I was so glad I won the auction (I was the only bidder, but that's beside the point) and Link got to come live with us. The original plan was to have Link be Link. Blonde hair, blue eyes, green costume, the works. But the perfect Link wig does not exist currently in the doll world, and so I didn't have blonde hair...
