New Arrivals

Image
This week has been pretty busy. My mom's still fighting her cold, but my sister and I got three new dolls on Tuesday. We wanted to introduce them right away, but mine needed something appropriate to wear first. I bought him some eyes, but they were too small. I haven't been able to order his wig yet, and he's a brand new size to our house so I had nothing for him to wear. I spent three days crocheting him a temporary modesty suit. Barrel Ryder made him a fur wig with a pattern we found online. It's got a little too much hair for him, but just like his current eyes and clothes, it's only temporary. I found a pair of eyes that I had laying around that will do for now. I did order him some new ones in the color I want for him, but they come from South Korea and haven't shipped yet, so he'll probably be stuck with these ones for a while. I'm hoping to be able to order him the wig I want next week. This guy is shorter than I expected and much more ...

Zephyr the Wolf Pup

Image
So for a couple of years I've been interested in tiny artist teddy animals. It started a couple of years ago when I really wanted to make a teddy bear for my sister's first teeny tiny BJD for Christmas. I found a shop online that sold kits to make tiny teddies, one even being just one inch tall! Yes, that really is as tiny as it sounds. I started by making a little bear for my mom that wasn't quite so small, and then made a one inch one for my sister. I liked it so much, I made more bears, shrunk some other patterns to try at that size and then designed a pattern of my own.   This is Zephyr, my very own wolf pup. When sitting he comes to about 3.75 inches tall. I designed him myself from scratch, revised the pattern three times, and created a pattern for sale. Zephyr looks really cute with YoSD dolls.                           ...

Work in Progress

Image
Recently, we've been working to finish three medieval costumes made to fit Tonner's Matt O'Neil body type. My sister and I were big into Tonner dolls before BJDs, and we still own quite a few. The Matt O'Neil body type is the typical male one, similar in size to an MSD BJD. Namely, Brick. In fact, Brick is currently wearing parts of Tonner's Will Turner and original Jack Sparrow pirate outfits. You can see the sewing room in these photos, and it is our business work area, so it can hold a lot of stuff at any given time. When a project is under construction, the sewing room naturally looks like an active construction zone. Anyway, we've been busy on our medieval costumes for a while now. The progress has been slow due to a large volume of rain (I can't hand sew in the dark) and the fact that my mom's been sick with a cold for a few days now (she does the sewing machine work at the moment). When we're finally done, each outfit will be a little d...

The Golden Touch

Image
Well, I only have one other doll to introduce to you at this time. He's my little thief, and he might steal your heart if you aren't careful. Say hello to Midas! Midas is about the size of a Ken doll, but his articulation is way better. In fact, Midas is even dating a made to move Barbie as they are fairly compatible in size, though he's quite a bit taller than she is. I'll be sure and introduce her sometime. Midas's adorable little size will most probably allow him to get into a few very interesting situations. It'll also make clothing him in something special a challenge too. Just so you know, it's not going to be all about the dolls here, but also about the things we make, both for dolls and for other things. I can't wait to make Midas some clothes of his own that fit properly and look amazing. Right now, he's wearing YoSD clothes from his shirt to his shoes, and they're a little on the too big side for him. ~SilverStar-Burst

The Odd-Balls

Image
Hey there, Barrel Ryder here again with my last two dolls to introduce. Firstly, we have Cheyenne Pepper... no I'm not joking; my family is weird.   Cheyenne is Marcus' cousin. She came to live at our house for a modeling job, but she hasn't really done any modeling or fitting work, yet. She is sporting a mishmash of clothing; her pants came from an American Girl Hopscotch Hill outfit, her shirt from a Tonner Tyler Wentworth outfit and the jacket from a Wilde Imagination Ellowyne Wilde doll.     She is also wearing a yarn wig made by Silver. And my last little guy for now is Twixleberry! Twixleberry is called Twix all the time and that is most likely what he will always be referred to as on this blog. He was my first BJD this year and I had to wait through Chinese New Year to get him. He has no hair at the moment but he's still adorable. He comes with two tails--one longer and a small one that looks like a real goat's tail-...

The Gang's Wall Here

Image
Now that you've met the Roads, the Garr brothers, and Ryder's first family; it's time you meet the Wall family. Brick Wall and his happy family belong to me, SilverStar-Burst. Their family contains my first ever BJD, who you'll meet a little further down the page. As you can see, Brick has a rather large family. He and his lovely wife have seven kids, one assistant, and a stowaway. That's not even counting all the little animals and aliens they drag along with them. Up first is Captain Brick Wall, former sky pirate, current treasure seeker and detective. He's ~47cm tall, and I bought him secondhand off of eBay. He started out as big brother to my two earliest YoSDs, but he made a better father-figure, so I made him that instead. He may have a little of a deer-in-the-headlights look right now, but that's only because I just told him he's going to be featured on a blog. I guess he's a little overwhelmed by the idea. Next is Ivy Wall. She...

History of Ryder's First BJD Ever

Image
Barrel Ryder here again, with my next doll family. This family doesn't really have a last name but one of the characters has a last name so it's kinda confusing...I'll just get on with the post and it should make sense by the end. This is the family. This is Jade. She was my first ever BJD and the first ever BJD to enter this house, she is very special to me. Jade has a sad story, her husband was a police officer and was killed in the line of duty very shortly after they were married. Jade adopted three children after her husband died. She also owns a ranch and has a very handsome ranch hand who you will met momentarily. Jasmine was my second ever BJD. Jasmine's best friend is Lego Loki from the Avengers movie, Loki pretends to be mean but mess with his girl and he will end you! Jasmine also loves the Lord of the Rings, and the Hobbit. This is Amy. Amy is soft spoken loves horses and nature, oh and has a huge crush on Marcus from the Roads...

Introducing Brooke and the Garr Brothers

Image
My first family is pretty small, including only three dolls. Actually, they aren't all a "family" as such, because the boys are brothers but the girl is simply someone they both like. A lot. These are the Garr brothers and Brooke. The boys' story is kind of unique. I wanted one of them, so I ordered the brother on the left. I wanted him in tan and I paid for a face-up. However, I got him and he was hardly tanned and his face-up initially struck me as a disaster. He was shipped him before I could have this mistake corrected, so I figured I'd have to send him back or sell him. That's when I decided to order his brother. When the first boy came it was a Saturday and the post office was closed. I had two choices, wait until Monday and see if I could put "return to sender" on the box and send him back at no cost to me, or open the box, see what he looked like in real life, and take a chance on selling him later. I opened the box. To my surprise...

All Roads Lead to Rocky

Image
Hello out there, it's Barrel Ryder here to talk about some of my dolls. I have several dolls and a few different 'families' of dolls so today I'm going to be talking about the Roads.   This is a picture of them all on their very comfortable couch... Rocky's words, not mine.     The youngest one of the Roads is Penny--the one with the light brown hair:     Penny is not only the youngest but also the smallest of her Pukifee brothers and sisters. Penny is also the most girly of her sisters.   Sitting next to her in the purple is Pixel--the oldest of the Pukifees. She is also very--how do I say this--depressed...? Just ignore her doom and gloom outlook on life, I'm hoping it's a phase...   Up next are the twins, Pippin and Pippi.     This is Pippin the older twin, by a few minutes. Pippin is always happy, happy, happy! And I think his smile and attitude are infectious!     Pi...
