Snowy Adventurers
So around here the snow has been melting quickly (and with all the requirements of my current job I can't complain about that too much), but I haven't been able to get any outdoors snow photos. But we did get some last year, so I though I'd post a few pictures of that excursion.
Only Jasmine, Ryder, and Descole were brave enough to venture out into the snow, mostly because they were the only three with matching medieval costumes. First they posed beneath our big pine tree for me.
It snowed pretty hard that day, making it difficult to find places where the snow wouldn't bury the little dolls in its drifts.
Ryder had to take a closer look at the little cave the snow over a bush created.
Jasmine went around back to see if there might be a cave on that side too, but all she found was a sort of divot by the backside of the bush.
Descole took his hood off to pose beside a birch tree. With his winter powers the snow wasn't much of a bother to him.
Meanwhile, Jasmine got into mischief trying to crawl into the makeshift cave. She immediately regretted that decision, though, and turned to try and crawl back out.
Finally the explorers found a nice spot out of the snow and wind and posed for a portrait.
Playing in the snow was fun!
Now for a quick Winter Weather Advisory for dolls. BJDs are fairly resilient and can handle getting a little wet in the snow. What you have to watch for, however, is their accessories. For this shoot I brought Descole's and Ryder's swords outside with them so they would look like proper medieval warriors. Trouble was, Ryder's sword didn't stay on his belt too well, and it, in fact, fell off in the snow and got lost. We searched for it as best we could, but there was too much snow that day, and every day after that for two to three months.
I had to figure Ryder's sword was gone. After all, we have magpies and other birds that like shiny objects, not to mention school kids in our neighborhood. I guessed if it could even be found, someone else would find it long before I did, so I had to go hunting across the internet to find another Legend of Zelda Four Swords keychain sword exactly like the one I lost. I finally did find one, and I bought it.
Then, as winter ended, I looked out in the yard and lo and behold there was Ryder's sword! Just laying beside a flower bed waiting to be discovered. I ran out to grab it and marveled that it had indeed been found and now I had two. Luckily, the Walls had another son after that, so having two swords of the same was no big deal. Still, all that to say, be extra careful with the props and pieces you take out with your dolls during bad weather. Stay warm!
