In the Box
After a week of travels, the YoSD crew returned home. It was a rainy afternoon when they settled to the couch at Descole and Ryder's house to open the box and get a better look at the treasure.
"What do you think is in it?" Ryder wondered.
"Another box?" Descole opened the wooden container and stared in surprise.
Impatiently, Jasmine pulled the wooden box out of Descole's way. "Well, open it!" she cried.
The box had an ornate design on the cover. Descole had never seen anything like it.
So without hesitating, Descole threw open the box.
"Wow!" All the kids couldn't tear their eyes off the gorgeous jewel inside.
It was then that detectives Rocky and Brick came in from the rain and a difficult case.
"What are you kids up to?" Rocky asked the little ones on the couch.
Descole looked up at his dad and uncle. "Looking at the treasure we found in Goblin Valley."
"Let us see that," Brick knelt in front of the couch to get a closer look at what his kids were looking at.
"Where did you find this?" Brick stared at the jeweled beetle in his hand. Descole explained about the map, and Brick nodded. "Rocky and I hid this in Goblin Valley years ago. We'd been hired to transport it, but thieves chased us and we had to hide it. I scribbled a map, but Rocky and I were afraid we were being watched so we were unable to go back. Eventually, we just kind of forgot about it."
"We should probably return this to the museum," Brick helped Descole pack the beetle back into the box. "The director will be glad to get it back. He must've given up on it years ago."
"Don't you think so, Rocky?" he questioned his partner.
"Yes, I do," Rocky wholeheartedly concurred. "Leave a note for Ivy about where we've gone, and I'll give the museum director a ring."
So the group got dressed in warm clothes and braved the rain together to get to the museum. The director was thrilled to see them, anticipating their arrival ever since Rocky had called him to let him know they were coming.
"Can you believe it?" Brick grinned at the director. "After all these years, the kids found the jeweled beetle right where Rocky and I were forced to hide it."
"Here you go, sir," Descole held out the box.
"The museum is in your debt, kids," the director smiled. "Thank you so much."
