Rothbart's Outfit

Image
I've been posting about Rothbart, but I never actually took the time to show his finished outfit since I got it all done. So here it is all finished. He has a cape, jerkin, shirt, pants, boots, gauntlets, boot covers, amulet, belt, sword, sheath, and bag. Rothbart is the only doll in my mini crew I've done a short cape for. It's made of thin black knit fabric that flows really nicely on such a tiny doll. For his cape I changed the hemline to have points like bat wings. His boot covers were a lot of work! I had to design a pattern for them, and sew all those tiny straps with buckles to them. The straps are about an eighth of an inch wide and they do all function as straps. In order for him to wear these, I actually have to slide each strap through it's buckle and that's what holds it in place. Why'd I go to all that trouble? Because his boots are lace up, and while I wanted black and the ones with laces are all I could find, I didn't particularly...

Enchanted Evangeline Two

Image
We made one Enchanted dress for Evangeline in the past. Now we've got a second one up for sale. We did this one in red and black brocade fabrics. This dress is really beautiful with the full skirt and long, flowing sleeves. There's gold and black trim around the bottom of the skirt. From the side. And the back. The dress closes with a zipper. And there's a black tule underskirt underneath to give the skirt its fullness. Here's a closer look at the top of the front of the dress. As well as a closer look at the bottom front. And, finally, a good look at the sleeve. This dress is still available on either eBay or Etsy. Introducing Lyra

Image
Rothbart's got a girlfriend! So I've actually had her for a while, but never taken the time to introduce her. This is Lyra. She's a mermaid, a princess, sometimes a swan, and Rothbart's girlfriend. She's actually quite a bit shorter than Rothbart, but she has trouble standing on her own, so I let her borrow a Barbie stand for this photo shoot. Rothbart was okay with that, because then he didn't have to bend so far down to look into her eyes. Lyra has long jet black hair, mint green eyes, and extremely pale skin. By herself, she literally looks like a porcelain doll instead of a BJD. I think Rothbart was about to steal a kiss here, but then he realized Damian still had the camera and was snapping pictures! "Hey!" This is without the stand so you can see how much shorter Lyra is than Rothbart. However, having a tall guy around does come in handy, so Lyra can't complain, and Rothbart thinks she's so cute he would never com...

The Knight and the Dragon

Image
On a crisp fall day, Sir Damian took a walk through the forest. Finding a large, flat rock, Damian sat for a while, autumn leaves floating gently from the trees around him. From behind the rock at his back, Damian heard a sound. What is that? Damian looked over his shoulder... A little dragon! Dragons and knights being enemies, Damian leapt to his feet, hand on his sword, and prepared to defend himself. "Hello," said the dragon. "My name is Gene." The little squeak surprised Damian. He didn't know that dragons could talk! Now he just had to get a closer look. "I'm Sir Damian," Damian introduced himself. "I'm a knight." "A knight," the dragon gulped. "Aren't knights enemies with dragons?" Damian explained that many brave knights had fought big scary dragons to defend beautiful damsels and helpless kingdoms. "But you don't look so big or scary to me," D...

My New Unicorn

Image
So all the way back in April, I set about trying to design my own plush unicorn. I'd been thinking about it and planning on doing it way before then, but it wasn't until April that I really buckled down and made the pattern. I always wanted a unicorn to go with my dolls, besides my BJD ones, that was bigger and really neat looking. This is Fantasia. She's the first prototype that worked. I was so pleased at how she turned out. She has beads for eyes and I even gave her eyelids. I did this unicorn in the way I wanted, with inset legs that are extremely long and gangly. To note: I made the pattern completely from scratch and didn't use any other pattern to get from point A to B. Fantasia's mane and tail floof are made of wefting from yarn. I brushed them out to make them look like hair rather than yarn pieces. As you can see, her legs and tail really are long and spindly. Here's a view of the back. Fantasia can also sit like a bi...
