Introductions, Part 1
Over the course of the last few years, I've added a number of dolls to my collection that I haven't introduced on here yet. Normally, my thought process is that I want to paint them or dress them properly before showing them off. Usually, I want to be sure they have the right hair and eyes at the very least. However, some of that can take a very long time, and then the dolls just don't get introduced. Plus, I was way lazy about blogging last year.
So today I want to introduce all the dolls in my room that haven't yet been introduced. Hopefully tomorrow I can do the same with any that are in the basement.
These are the ones from my room. Frankly, none of them really have much of a "family" group, per se, and I really just wanted to get the introductions done, so I'm doing it all at once.
First we have Captain Calabourn, aka Cal. Cal is a half shark, half human creature from the ocean called a Sharkite. He was an orphan, raised as a soldier by a Sharkite duke and duchess when he was a boy. When the duke was killed in a merpeople uprising, the duchess turned against the merman king because he refused to send them aid. She used Cal, who she placed under a spell, in order to take over the mer-kingdom. In the end, the king's daughter, Princess Anemone, freed Cal from his curse and he helped the king re-gain the throne. However, the king chose not to trust Cal, and he banished him to the Isle of Exiles. Cal started out on the dark side of the Isle, but was moved to the lighter side by the pleading of Anemone. There, he met Prince Kitridge, and eventually the two escaped together and found themselves castaways at the Wall house. Now they take up residence in Brick's guest house out back, along with Howl and Xavier.
Next, this is Peckadilly Sarkiss, or Peck for short. Peck is a mature mini, and he fits in with Rothbart and his crew. Peck's supposed to have a medieval wizard costume, but I haven't gotten that far yet. In the meantime he looks good in pretty much anything, so he's just hanging out in some Ken clothes.
Meet Brick and Ivy's new baby, Lily! She's so stinking cute! I've wanted a baby girl for Brick and Ivy for a long time, but always put it off due to the cost of them. I thought I missed my chance when they were discontinued off of eBay, but someone put up a secondhand one on eBay right afterwards, and I had the savings to get her. As an added bonus, her head is magnetized to her neck and she came with two awake heads as well as this sleeping one. One of those awake heads is painted too. She fits Kelly clothes, so that's what she's wearing for now, but in time I plan to make her some other things.
Atlas has been on here before, but never formally introduced. He's Damian's older brother. Last year I gave him a good face-up (after giving him a very bad one...) and this year he's getting good clothes. It's about time too. He's been wearing these 18" doll clothes since I got him. Atlas used to be a mercenary and he was wanted big time. One day he was being chased by law officers and he made it down to the beach, where he turned a corner and came across a tide pool with a little boy inside! This boy was three years old, had green eyes, red hair, and...clear skin? Seemed the kid had no one and didn't know any English either. Atlas escaped his pursuers and took the child with him. Though he tried to find the boy's family, he never could so he kept him and named him Damian. He's been raising Damian as his little brother ever since.
Belinda is another member of the mature mini crew. She's meant to have a medieval warrior costume, but for now she's wearing a dress I crocheted for Lyra. I absolutely love her flaming red hair and violet eyes. I'm not so sure about her face-up, but I'm also not ready to do it over yet, so I'm going to leave it as it is for now.
Also a mature mini, Etienne is supposed to be a little dragon. Thus I made him a costume that includes dragon wings and a tail. He has dragon arm guards as well. Etienne was difficult to figure out hair for, but eventually I settled on this yarn wig I made because he's so adorable in his light brown afro. I've made him other outfits too, but this is his true character.
Axel. I sort of introduced him the other day on my "Why I Do Dolls" post, but I wanted to do it again, because I actually finished some clothes for him. I know, right? Amazing! So I made him a little vest, and a faux bag to hang on his rope belt. Then I also gave him a clock hand that he can use as a sword. He also has a...hat? Okay, so it's supposed to be a hat, and it looks like one from the front, but it's terrible from the back. Still, he looks so cute in it I had to leave it on him. And, of course, he kept his signature red scarf. He's all ready for adventure.
Ratchet is a griffin. A clockwork one with gears and jewels in his eyes. I love his eyes. I've been wanting to paint him forever, but I still have absolutely no idea how I want to do it. He's going to be so cool when he's done though. That much is for sure.
This is Mozenrath. He's a wizard. Abandoned on the doorstep of the magic castle academy when he was five, Mozenrath began life with nothing but the clothes on his back, and a single sheet of paper that said "Mozenrath." At first the headmaster of the school kept Moze around as something like a servant. He just sort of lived in the castle, but wasn't a student. Then, when he was eight, he discovered that he had a burning energy within him, which manifests in purple flames that burn even Moze's own skin. For this reason, he often wears gloves. Seeing this powerful potential, the headmaster made Moze a student, and the other students eventually gave him the nickname Moze. Moze is a very powerful wizard with one problem. Outside of his internal energy, he can only do magic while speaking in rhyme, and he can't rhyme if he isn't hungry. The hungrier he is, the better his rhymes become and the more powerful his magic; if he's full, however, his rhymes fall apart and so do his spells. He often tries to remain hungry for that purpose, and he always carries roasted pumpkin seeds with him to snack on, just to keep enough energy not to faint. He's at his weakest during the holidays, and those who know what a danger his powers can be are always trying to ply him with food. Needless to say, he lives rather well.
This is Tenebrous. It means "lost in the dark," but everyone he knows just calls him Tennie. Tennie used to be a villain in Belinda's world, until he was defeated and forced to start life over as a six year old. Now he's growing up as he should have, and he's a quiet sort. Peaceful, calm, and a little clumsy. He's not a fighter--he's not coordinated enough for that--and he prefers to stay out of conflicts. Like Moze and Howl, he's a wizard, though he only uses his magic when necessary.
Atticus is my only Azone doll. He's a part of the mature mini crew, sort of, and he's a steampunk character. I got him because he was too cute to resist and I loved his little clothes and especially boots. He's very precious and well made, so it was a good decision.
This is a surprising face, isn't it? Clear back at, like, the beginning of this blog, we tried to get one of these Camellia Dynasty unicorns, but it didn't work out. I figured, then, that we'd never have one. Then, last year actually, one showed up on eBay that was exactly as we'd tried to order and even came with a saddle that was a promotional thing Camellia Dynasty was no longer including in the purchase. Plus it was a little cheaper. Score! I bought him right away. When he got here, he became Damian's best friend, and Damian named him Anakin Sky Runner. Anakin is a great addition to my collection, so I'm glad I could get him.
Lastly this is Prince Kitridge, Cal's best friend. He likes to go by Kit, and he doesn't like to be called "prince" since he no longer has a kingdom. Kit was a world traveler, and preferred adventures to his princely duties at his home castle. Shortly after he returned from one of his many trips, his father fell desperately ill. Those directly under the king accused Kit of trying to kill his father so that he could take the throne. Before he had a chance to defend himself or prove himself innocent, Kit found himself tried and found guilty. The next thing he knew, he'd been banished to the Isle of Exiles where he met Captain Calabourn. Cal, an actual criminal, was kind of the polar opposite of Kit, and somehow they hit it off and became the best of friends. Eventually, when they were threatened, Cal convinced Kit to escape with him and the help of Princess Anemone. Away from the Isle, they found themselves at the Wall house where, on walking through the guesthouse door, Kit was transformed into a frog!
Cal, outraged, spent a year trying to find a way to turn Kit back into a human with the help of Howl, the wizard who accidentally cursed Kit in the first place. A year later and they made a little progress. Howl; with the help of his girlfriend, unicorn keeper Genevieve; came up with a flamboyant and flashy magic hat for Kit. So long as he keeps his hat on, he remains human, but if he takes it off he turns right back into a frog. It works for now, but it can be a real pain around here because there are a lot of windy days.
I have a few more dolls in the basement who I will try to introduce tomorrow or the next day. In the meantime, one of the dolls I'm getting this year should be here today or tomorrow. I'm hoping not to buy any dolls this year, but we'll see. However, I did purchase two last year that haven't arrived yet. With a second introduction post, we should be just about all caught up, with the exception of the one "on order" doll, and two that are taken apart and washed for painting right now, so I'm not going to introduce them until I can put them back together. Stay tuned!
