Eyes for Mimi the Unicorn

Image
So, I named my Doll Chateau Lillian Unicorn. Her name is Mimi. I used to have a guinea pig named Mimi, but she passed away many years ago, and I felt it appropriate to bestow her name on something else adorable that I love. So here's Mimi with her new eyes. I got them from SucreDulce on Etsy. Pardon the blurry picture, I wanted to show how they fit in her. I ended up using 10mm eyes on her. Word to the wise: 10mm eyes are the perfect size in this doll. 8mm eyes are too small and leave gaps around the sides and anything bigger than 10mm will not fit in her tiny head. Also, the eyes have to be flat backed or even 10mm eyes won't fit. In this photo you can kind of see these eyes are a sparkly purple. I can hardly wait to paint this gorgeous girl and see what she looks like finished. I only hope I'm up to the challenge. ~SilverStar-Burst

Finally! Boots That Fit!

Image
BJDs similar to Ken dolls are a great size. They're like SD dolls in miniature and they travel really well. The only trouble is that, like a lot of BJDs, they don't fit standard size items. That's a joke, right? "Standard size" BJD items? Like there really is such a thing... Anyway, from the get go I wanted some boots for Midas that fit nicely, but finding any was extremely difficult. Ken boots would fit, but they are either completely fabric or plastic. The best Ken boots in plastic look just a little silly with molded laces. Most of the 1/6 size action figure shoes I found are made "attached" to the figure foot, which means the figure has a peg at the bottom of the figure's leg and the "foot" is permanently in the shoe. At first I had him in YoSD boots, but they weren't exactly what I wanted and they were a little big. They also look like children's boots, really, so I knew he needed something better. So I started by...

More Eyes for Sale

Image
I was on eBay about a week ago and ran across a listing for a large lot of BJD eyes. They were reasonably priced for the lot and there was a pair or two I wanted, so I bought them. They arrived yesterday and my sister and I cleaned them up and sorted them out. The glass ones smelled heavily of vinegar and had to be washed in warm soapy water with dish soap. Luckily, that got all the vinegar stink off of them, so they're clean, pristine, and ready to go. Anyway, once we picked the pairs we wanted to keep, the rest were slated to go up for sale. It took the morning and the first part of the afternoon to do, but they're up now along with whatever was left from the first time I set up the eye listing. So if you're in the market for a good pair of eyes at a good price, pop on over and take a gander at the ones I have available. You might just find something you like. Better hurry; BJD eyes seem to sell quickly! Eye Listing Link: https://www.ebay.com/itm/202224565804?var=...

An Interview with Daddy

Image
Brick got a surprise today: a brand new desk to solve his cases at. Just in time too, since he was being photographed for an article in the Mirage River Gazette . He and Rocky just solved a big case and it's in all the papers, along with pictures of the two intrepid detectives. "That's it. Hold that pose," the photographer from the Gazette instructed, snapping the picture. "Great! Very official. Thanks, Detective Wall." And, with that final shot, he went out. Chuckling to himself over how star-struck some people could be when they met either of the two detectives, Brick turned back to his new desk and the case at hand he was working on there. "Daddy, can I talk to you for a second?" Horace stepped into his father's office and asked. "Sure, buddy. What's up?" Brick glanced over at his son. "It's just I have to write an essay on what I want to be when I grow up for school," Horace hung his head an...

New Flame

Image
I got a new doll today. So did my sister, but hers didn't turn out the way it was supposed to so I doubt she'll be posting about that anytime soon. I, however, got exactly what I paid for and expected, and, not to be insensitive, but I couldn't wait to introduce Flame. Flame is amazing! I love the white, and I especially love that currently he's one of a kind. I intend to paint him, when it warms up and the wind stops blowing, in fiery colors like orange, red, and yellow. But for now I had to settle with simply getting his eyes in place. His eyes were also purchased from Little Katherine Doll at the same time as I got Farran's. I actually bought him two pairs of flaming eyes, because he came with the open mouth head as well. However, I prefer the closed mouth version for most every day things, and I also have to glue a tooth back in place on the other one, so I only inserted eyes in this head. Once his eyes went in, out he went to explore the yard. Th...

Introducing Farran the Unicorn

Image
Another doll that needed eyes was Farran: one of my BJD unicorns. I got her last year at Black Friday. She arrived in less than a week and she did in fact come with eyes, just anime eyes that I didn't like. It's not like they weren't cute, but after seeing this doll in person, I felt she needed pretty eyes instead of simply cute ones. This full set is painted beautifully! She's all metallic and sparkly; she even has three tiny pieces of glitter confetti carefully glued under one eye. Because of that, I needed some very sparkly gorgeous eyes to match. I think my favorite part of Farran's paint is the little bat "necklace" she has. The detail on this doll, though, is truly stunning. I hope someday I can do even half so well on my own doll painting. Though the company called for 14mm eyes for her, I bought some first and they turned out to be a disaster. Firstly, they were round, and two round eyes of the 14mm size wouldn't even go into F...

New Eyes

Image
So I set up the listing to sell off old eyes, but at the same time I had to order a few pairs of new eyes for current dolls. Firstly, I decided Horace really did need a different pair. I think I like the olive green ones I got him much better than the bright blue he had. They match him a little better. Sorry for the poor quality of the photos. I took them upstairs in my bedroom and the lighting there is terrible. I really need to choose a better location. Oh, well, with the flash they turned out good enough to show Horace's new eyes, and hopefully we'll see a lot more of them this year. ~SilverStar-Burst
