Purging Eyes

Image
So if you're into BJDs you probably already know that more than one doll means eyes coming out your ears! Okay, that might be a bit of an exaggeration, but not totally. See, each doll comes with eyes, no matter where you get it from. In fact, I've only had one doll come without eyes in all my time of buying BJDs. In most cases a BJD owner will want to change the eyes the doll came with. No matter what eyes they came with, those eyes will probably not be what was envisioned for the doll, so the eyes have to be switched out for what was envisioned. In the case of some dolls, that takes one try. In the case of a doll like my Xavier, it takes multiple tries. Xavier came with brown eyes already installed. The problem was his character didn't call for brown eyes, and they were a little on the small side so I dug through my ever-expanding stash and found something else temporarily. Of all the eyes I had to try these strange yellow ones looked best, and so he wore them ...

Doll Debut

Image
I've always loved unicorns, so having a BJD version was something I really, really wanted. There was an eBay seller who had this BJD unicorn in stock and blank. So I bought her. Shipping estimated a very late arrival time. I thought I'd have to wait at least a month, but to my surprise she arrived within a few weeks. She was so precious; I immediately fell in love with her. Then today it began to snow again a nice, thick blanket. Since my new unicorn was one of the dolls I wanted to take out in the snow anyway, I seized the opportunity and went for it. I started by the big pine tree, a nice spot to take doll photos. My unicorn's white resin doesn't stand out too well in the snow, but it is more "cream" than white so you can still see her. Since the snow wasn't too deep yet, I set her in the middle of the front yard. A vast field of white powder. This unicorn can be a bit fidgety, but I didn't have too many difficulties getting her t...

Snowy Adventurers

Image
So around here the snow has been melting quickly (and with all the requirements of my current job I can't complain about that too much), but I haven't been able to get any outdoors snow photos. But we did get some last year, so I though I'd post a few pictures of that excursion. Only Jasmine, Ryder, and Descole were brave enough to venture out into the snow, mostly because they were the only three with matching medieval costumes. First they posed beneath our big pine tree for me. It snowed pretty hard that day, making it difficult to find places where the snow wouldn't bury the little dolls in its drifts. Ryder had to take a closer look at the little cave the snow over a bush created. Jasmine went around back to see if there might be a cave on that side too, but all she found was a sort of divot by the backside of the bush. Descole took his hood off to pose beside a birch tree. With his winter powers the snow wasn't much of a bother to him. ...

Vacation with Midas

Image
When Midas heard that the YoSDs were going on vacation down south with us... ...he decided he would stowaway and come along for the trip! He made sure to get out at every opportunity. First was our stop in Goblin Valley. Midas loved all the hide-y holes he found all over that place! At Natural Bridges Monument, Midas got out again for some photos. First was with some cactus and I'm sure I heard him muttering "don't fall over, don't fall over" while I took the picture. Those cactus look pretty big when you're only 13 inches tall! Of course, then I had to find an even bigger bunch of cactus for the next picture. "There's no way I'm getting near that!" Midas told me firmly. I'm not positive, but I think he might've been hiding just a bit. Are you a man or a mouse? I had to ask. "Neither," Midas replied. "I'm a BJD. And I might chip my face-up if I fall in there." So I gav...
