Sugar Stix

Image
I finished another unicorn last night. This one is light pink with mint green accents. She's super cute and I've named her Sugar Stix. I got Link to demonstrate sizes. These unicorns are all approximately the same size, though they very by a fourth an inch to a half an inch due to materials used and how deep a seam I took when sewing. But they all come out about 14 inches tall from hoof bottom to horn tip and 8 inches long from nose to butt. They are almost 16 inches long if you go all the way from the nose to the tail tip. Sugar Stix is very cute and soft. She makes a great BJD prop. Here she is with Tempest and Fantasia. They make a nice little herd, don't they? And lined up side by side. Sugar Stix is up for sale now on either Etsy or eBay. Links below. Please, if you are interested, go check her out. I put a lot of work into each of these and I know any unicorn lover would enjoy having such a unique toy in their collection. Etsy: https://www.e...

Now Tempest is up for sale. Along with Fantasia. And I also put up this little blue bear, who I call B. Lou Beary. He's five inches tall and perfect for BJDs. They are available on eBay and Etsy, so if you are interested, please stop by and take a look. Links below. Tempest

Image
As promised, I finished a second unicorn and now I'm ready to post about it. Meet Tempest. Tempest is made of blue fleece with mint green vines swirled all over his body. His accent color is mint green and it can be seen on his horn, hooves, and inside of his ears. He also has intense blue bead eyes and a mint green mane and tail tuft. Also as promised, I pulled out a standard sized MSD to compare. Howl is in the mid-forty centimeters range. You can see Howl's a bit taller than the unicorn, but it's not a terrible size for a magical creature compared to a "human." Howl is highly impressed by Tempest the unicorn. However, Tempest isn't too sure what he thinks of Howl. Seeing Tempest getting all the attention, Fantasia came over to investigate the stranger. They were soon all fast friends, and Howl got himself a pair of guard unicorns. Tempest was intrigued by Fantasia, the only other unicorn he'd ever met. They sto...

Medieval Explorers

Image
I've been wanting to take my mini crew and Akbadain outside for some pictures, but it's been kind of cold and I wasn't ready to do that. However, the other day when Damian and I set the scene for him to take photos of his elephant, I thought that would make for some nice explorer portraits. So I dragged Akbadain downstairs along with everyone else. So Midas, Maggie, Lyra, and Rothbart went exploring in the fall woods. Midas took the lead, walking beside Akbadain. Since Lyra needed to ride, Midas consented to let Rothbart ride with her. And Maggie brought up the rear. They make a smart little group in their medieval costumes. Adventure awaits! ~SilverStar-Burst

Fantasia Unicorn Compared to Mature Mini BJDs

Image
I designed my unicorn with the idea it would work with MSD sized BJDs originally. But I think it came out a little smaller than expected. Maybe not, but I still need to take the time to compare with that size. Anyhow, Fantasia came out perfect sized for my mini medieval crew, which is great because I'd probably use a unicorn with them more anyway. Lyra is short compared to my tall and proud unicorn. Actually, Lyra is kind of short compared to everybody... Beautiful portrait of the maiden and the unicorn. Rothbart, so much taller than Lyra, is still a little shorter than Fantasia, but not by too much. My whole medieval crew (currently) plus Fantasia the unicorn. They make a pretty nice looking group, but Midas and Rothbart should've switched sides. And then, just because he was there and I love it when people do this, Damian got into the picture and I took a group photo for them. Say cheese! I'm currently working on getting the unicorn I wa...

Maggie's Outfit

Image
Maggie is Midas's girlfriend and also she's not a BJD. She's a Made to Move Barbie. Still, the ability to pose in a Made to Move Barbie is pretty impressive and Barbies scale perfectly with 1/6 mature mini BJDs. But in order for Maggie to fit in with Midas, Rothbart, and Lyra, she needed a medieval costume of her own. Maggie got a floor length cape in the same fabric as Midas's. See, both Maggie and Midas used to be thieves, so they prefer clothes in colors that blend into the scenery. For Maggie's costume, I made everything except her boots and pants. The pants that came with the doll were plain black stretch pants so I didn't need to make her any others. As for shoes, well, Barbie makes enough shoes for their dolls that I didn't need to find anything too special. I got these off a Claire from Jurassic World Barbie. They were perfect for Maggie. I'd also love to boil dunk Maggie's hair to flatten it, but these dolls are hard to find and...

Lyra's Outfit

Image
Now that I've introduced Lyra, I figured I better do her outfit next. She has a cape made of a silky silver velvet. Lyra's cape is floor length. Her hair almost is too! LOL. Actually, her hair isn't quite that long, but it is really long and I absolutely love it. Lyra's cape works a little better with the hood down because of her hair. The silver goes really well with the rest of her dress. Her dress is mint green ultrasuede. Ultrasuede is a great fabric because it doesn't fray. It's soft like suede and this one stretched just like knit. I hand stitched the whole dress. Lyra's belt is a pearly faux leather that I bought to make something for Wyn. It's an extremely thick and heavy upholstery leather, but it worked perfectly for a belt. I used a gather stitch to pull down the top of her dress just a little, and then I glued a pretty crystal star to it. Lastly, I made her a bag of her own. It hangs over her shoulder wit...
