Fantasy Bears

One of the things I've been working on is a new shop on Etsy called Fantasy Bears. I've always loved making plush toys, and so I decided to try and turn that passion into a career of sorts. It's relaxing between writing and doing doll stuff. Also, it helps me expand my business.

And today I had a new bear to put up and a bit of inspiration struck me to do a little photo shoot.

These are a number of the animals I have available right now. You've probably seen a couple before on here, because I still haven't sold them. But there are some unfamiliar faces too.

First is Daybreak. He's the one who inspired this photo shoot, because he needed to be listed. I did him pretty much entirely yesterday. I didn't have anything else to do, so I just started him in the morning and worked almost all day until I had finished him. I think he turned out really, really cute! I was so excited, because it's rare for me to be so happy with the finished product. Plus I've been having major troubles with another project, so it was nice to have a win.

Next is Snowflake, so named for his snowflake bow-tie. I made him around the end of last year, I think, or the beginning of this year. He's very unique with his soft gray fur, bright cranberry nose, and ghostly blue eyes. I'm not sure why this combination suddenly struck me, but it did and I'm glad because I like the way the colors work together.

Then we have Spook, the orange Halloween elephant. I think I made him a couple of years ago, actually, but he hasn't been sold. I'm not sure why. I think he's darling.

Then Robin. She has the same type of fur as Snowflake, but in another color and pattern. This is some of my favorite miniature bear fabric because it's so easy to work with. She's very precious herself, and came out wonderfully.

Spook's twin brother, Fright, is the other Halloween elephant I made. Again, I don't understand why no one's bought these two. They're so darn cute, I could easily keep them. But, then, I could easily keep pretty much everything I make, and then I'd be drowning in a sea of plush toys. Not a bad way to go, but I'd rather not drown in plush just yet. Hopefully, someone will want to pick up one of these this Halloween.

Murphy is the third bear I currently have finished in this type of fabric. I did him differently with whites under his eyes. I think the red ribbon went well with the brown and gave him a classic bear feel. His fur is nice and soft and he has a brown ultrasuede nose. Trust me, holding one of these bears would make you just want to squeeze him forever.

And Tatters. I know you've seen her before. I designed this pattern, and I think she's awfully cute, if I say so myself. Maybe someone will want to take her home one day. Until then, she made a nice addition to my photo.

I propped this photo with a tree stump pot and some faux autumn leaves. Plus a background of fall foliage fabric. To do the leaves, I just grab a handful, hold them up high and drop them a little at a time so they "fall" just like they would out of a tree, which makes them look more natural and props them better than trying to place them myself. It wasn't until I'd finished, that I realized I forgot the three tiny bats I have finished. I also have four other mysterious creatures that would've loved to join in, but they couldn't because they have been débuted yet. Remember I mentioned a project giving me fits? Well, they're related to that project, and, until I can finish it, they remain shrouded in secrecy.

I have so many fun fabrics and so many fabulous ideas, I really need to get sewing. I've got one more bear I was trying to finish tonight and then I'll have to choose what to do next. Sometimes the ideas run away with me and then I just have to rein my horses in and take a very deep breath. I'm excited though. I've got to pick a direction and stick with it.

If you'd like to see any of these cuties closer, or any of the other plushies I've been working on, check out my new Etsy shop: https://www.etsy.com/shop/FantasyBears?ref=seller-platform-mcnav

I'd love to see you there!

Oh, and one more thing. I do have a couple of new dolls coming in soon, so I should be working in another introduction post or two as soon as I can.
