Setback

I haven't wrapped Wyn's shark tooth in wire yet, because I thought I'd get him at least somewhat painted and have his torso to try the necklace on. Well, that plan went awry after I suffered a setback. On Sunday evening I scrubbed Wyn's pieces in anticipation of the coming week. First nice day and I was going to paint that doll no matter what! I skipped sanding him because another BJD owner told me that would likely just scratch him, so I gently ran a magic eraser over him instead before washing him in warm water with dish soap, rinsing him under the tap, and rinsing again in distilled water to get rid of any contaminates from the tap water. Laying him aside to dry overnight, he was all ready to go. Monday there was little to no wind, it was sunny and nice. I got up early as I realized it was the perfect day to begin doll painting. Around here, the wind blows a lot (like right now, for instance), so finding a day when you can spray sealant is nearly impossible, and ...

Arctic Shark Tooth

Image
One of the outfits I have planned for Wyn is a beach scene outfit. It might seem odd, a Frost Fairy on the beach, but he is part Fire Fairy too, so he won't mind the heat. As a part of that outfit, which will still be winter themed, I decided to paint over one of the sharks' teeth I own and make it an "Arctic" shark tooth for a necklace for Wyn. Today was rather cold and rainy, so I got out my paint supplies. I decided since I was going to paint that tooth, I might as well finish painting some glass eyes for plush toys while I was at it. Laying down the drop cloth first, I got my work station all set up, separating the paint into two groups in the box because a different kind of paint is needed for painting on glass. I also got a paper plate, not to paint on but to hold items as they dried. With a glass of water and a paper towel, I was ready to get started. Here's my shark tooth. Might look pretty small, but it's perfectly scaled to an SD doll....

Project Doll

Image
Wyn was always meant to be a big project. Besides being SD sized, I wanted to do more with him than just put a face-up on him. I want to practice body blushing on Wyn as well. It goes a lot father than just that, actually. When I bought him, I envisioned a frosty character with an aristocratic feel. I envisioned a white suite and light blue shoes, blue tinge to the hair and skin, and dark blue eyes. However, as the time draws near to paint him, I've expanded his intended wardrobe and planned to purchase and make a number of extra accessories as well. Here's one final, close up look at him before I finish taking him completely apart. First I took off his hair, of course, to get a really good look at that stark white face. He truly is pale. The next thing I did was measure for eyelashes. In keeping with his special theme, he is going to need special eyelashes, which I'll have to order ASAP. Then I took him in another room and laid him out flat on a...

Evangeline's New Dress

Image
This week my mom finished sewing a new Evangeline Ghastly enchanted ballgown. When I first took the pictures I forgot the doll's hair was still in a braid. I got two photos before I remembered that I was going to take it out for the listing photos, because the pony holder was purple. Luckily, it couldn't be seen in either of these two photos. This dress is made of two brocade fabrics. There's gold and black trim around the bottom. I thought this dress looked particularly lovely on Serena De Siren, Barrel Ryder's Gothic Mist Evangeline Ghastly doll. The dress zips up in the back with a black zipper. Serena's blonde hair and dark red lips and nails matched really well with this dress. This dress's dark colors are very Evangeline Ghastly. I've placed this dress up for sale on eBay and Etsy. The links will be at the bottom of the post. Serena is very lovely, but any Evaneline would be beautiful in this dress! If you m...

Midas and Maggie

Image
Midas has a girlfriend named Maggie, short for Magdalena. She's a little Chinese girl raised in a Russian circus and named by the Russians. She's also a Made to Move Barbie doll. Today Midas and Akbadain went out for a ride. Little did they know Maggie was hiding nearby. Completely unawares, Midas was minding his own business. Before long, the two stumbled across Maggie beside the neighbor's flower bed. Midas pulled his hood away for a better look before dismounting. "Maggie? What are you doing out here?" "I was just going for an evening stroll," Maggie replied brightly. "Care to join me?" Midas agreed, and the two walked for a while before finding a nice spot among some pretty purple flowers to sit and talk. Maggie sighed contentedly. "I could sit here forever and admire the beauty, couldn't you?" "Yes," Midas answered honestly, but he wasn't talking about the flower...
